PROFIT SHARING WITH TANGO ORGANIZATIONS & REINVESTMENT IN THE ARCHIVE

How will the Archive support the future of Tango and pay homage, giving back to the lineage of Tango seen throughout the Archive?

We acknowledge that the economic prospects for Argentinians in Argentina are challenging and even more so for artists, teachers, and organizers.

When Daniel filmed the classes, performances, and instructional videos that constitute the Archive back in the 80s & 90s, every participant who taught, performed and worked as staff were paid well. Daniel’s companies and projects have always paid the contributing artists and staff at minimum a living wage (if not more) in all of the locations in which we worked and will continue to do so.

There was hope for even more profit through royalties during the age of The (prior) Tango Catalogue, but more money never materialized in those times. In 2000, with the election of George W. Bush, the Catalogue failed, our Argentina and Cuba Programs were canceled, and Daniel was the victim of a gang attack on the street in CA that left him with injuries from which he is still recovering decades later.

Moving forward it is our wish that the Archive will become a unique and profitable resource for the worldwide Tango Community. We feel that the best way to make good on our promise to share in future wealth is to give back directly to the people on the ground today, in Buenos Aires, who are working diligently, under difficult circumstances, to keep Tango alive and evolving in the Tango’s birthplace and home.

We are committed to profit sharing with organizations in Buenos Aires that directly support the organizers of Social Dancing, the teachers of innovative pedagogies, and the performance artists, creators and performers. We are in conversation at present with our collaborators in Buenos Aires who will help us bridge to and connect with organizations with whom to collaborate with and support.

The Tango is a World Heritage whose home is Buenos Aires. We are dedicated to building upon Tango resources and will continue to do so. Subscriptions serve as financial support for this whole continuum for how we can support Tango Art and Community.

As and when the Archive becomes profitable beyond covering its costs, we will make transparent how the profits are shared among paying staff, re-investing in the Archive, and supporting Tango organizations in Buenos Aires.
